Tenses

A poem for someone who is–but shouldn’t be–worth my feelings and time.

It was something unexpected

It was something unasked

But was welcome.

Until it isn’t.

It is not right

It is not the kind of bond I wanted

I thought it is, but it is not, the longer I think about it.

was enamored by you–

no, I am enamored by you.

I am wary of you, at the same time.

Before, you had a tight hold on me

I thought I surpassed that

I did not, after all.

You were what I wanted

You are what I want.

I’m not entirely sure why

What I’m sure about is–

I don’t want to want you anymore.
